GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This is a maintenance position with primary responsibility for minor repairs and servicing of vehicles. Road calls, assisting mechanics and occasional supervision of utility person's are also included. Duties are performed in all types of weather and conditions. Some exposure to cleaning agents, fumes, dust and less than sanitary conditions may occur. Some lifting required, approximately 100 pounds.

PREREQUISITES

• Must be at least 21 years
• Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
• Have a valid Illinois Driver's License for at least two years, a good record and the ability to obtain the required Commercial Driver's License (CDL), with air brake, combination vehicle and passenger endorsements. Have physical ability to drive all District owned vehicles.
• Ability to read and understand written District policies, forms, procedures, service and maintenance manuals, instructions, warning and safety labels. Ability to understand and communicate verbally in a professional manner.
• At least two (2) years verifiable experience working at a maintenance facility for heavy duty buses and/or trucks, as a repairman or servicer.
• One (1) year verifiable experience in apprentice type training performing minor repairs for heavy duty buses and/or trucks may substitute for one year of repairman or service
• Have full set of hand tools as outlined by the District and be skilled in operation of all tools and equipment required to perform repairs and adjustments necessary to keep fleet and equipment in excellent condition.
• Have physical ability to sit, bend, squat, stoop, stretch and lift (in excess of 100 pounds in difficult positions). Capable of using a creeper to lie beneath the

• Perform more complex procedures while under the direction and training of a unit builder or mechanic when directed by Management.
