Job Summary:
This is a Supervisory position with primary responsibility for directing and coordinating the full-time and part-time Operators activities. This position requires exposure to dust, exhaust, or chemical fumes, and inclement weather. Finalize daily/weekly payroll, assist main dispatcher, monitor Avail system, assist with complaints/coaching and other duties as assigned.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Schedule and assign daily work to individuals according to written procedures.
- Prepare all forms necessary to ensure orderly, accurate recording of attendance, pay roll/or other activities related to the Operations Department. Requires using an adding machine, reading written instructions, and writing skills.
- Monitor field activities to ensure that all employees are operating coaches safely and on time. Ability to direct, coach and instruct employees in following all District procedures in a safe and responsible manner. Discipline operators as necessary or directed.
- Coordinate efforts with other Supervisors to ensure the Operations department is performing all operations effectively. This requires good communication, work skills and teamwork. Assist personnel under your supervision with job related analysis and problem solving related to operational procedures and assigned tasks.
- Be current regarding detours, construction or weather conditions that impact the daily operations. Each Supervisor is responsible for reporting conditions that impact on the routes and developing alternatives to deal with the situation, in conjunction with the Dispatcher and Assistant General Manager.
- Communicate to the Assistant General Manager through verbal and/or written reports, all situations, infractions/ violations of District policies and procedures that need special attention or discipline. Make recommendations for changes to procedures and/or, the Operations Department to improve effectiveness, to the Assistant General Manager.
- Ensure that all appropriate information regarding accidents/ incidents is appropriately recorded and turned over to the Assistant General Manager for disposition. Ensure Operators follow proper reporting procedures.
- Other activities as assigned by Management.
Education/Skills:
- Ability to read and comprehend all written District procedures, training materials and basic written and verbal instructions.
- Possess good management skills to lead, direct, and supervise others in the performance of their job, and professionally communicate.
- Must have a minimum of 1-year full-time experience at the Operator level.
- Have a valid driver's license, good operating record, ability to obtain a required Commercial Driver's License (C.D.L.) Class B or higher and passengers' endorsements.
- Requires physical ability to utilize standard office equipment, mobile and base radios, operate District revenue and support vehicles.
- Good attendance, safety and customer service record in prior and current position (Full Time Operator or Part Time Supervisor).
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Supervisors usually split their time between fieldwork and office-based tasks (such as scheduling, planning, or reporting).
- Possible exposure to dirt, dust, moderate noise, electrical/chemical/mechanical hazards, communicable diseases, angry/difficult people, and construction sites.
- Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing, or sitting for prolonged periods of time; kneeling, squatting, bending, twisting, and crouching during assigned activities, pushing and/or pulling, climbing stairs, lifting, and carrying materials.
- Must be able to lift to 25 pounds at times.
General Working Hours:
Hours and schedule will vary depending on shift selection and seniority.
Travel:
Travel will be required to visit Transit Center, detour planning, route changes, etc. and must have a valid CDL.
