Job Summary
The Financial Accountant is responsible for performing specialized tasks in support of accounting cycles which includes general ledger administration, accounts receivable, daily deposits, period end closings, account reconciliations, expenditure corrections, budget adjustment entries, daily deposit administration, petty cash, fixed assets, preparation of statements, invoices, records, and other financial documents, annual audit collaboration and other duties as assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Processes and documents transactions in receivables, budget accounts, and expenses.
- Reconciles bank statements, handles and counts cash, and reconciles those handlings.
- Prepares basic financial statements, accounting or operational reports and spreadsheets as assigned or directed.
- Develop and maintain reports and files liability account balances.
- Research and correct account discrepancies.
- Develop and maintain regular reports via the company's accounting system.
- Assists in month end closing.
- Receives, processes, and/or prepares a variety of receipts, invoices, statements, payments, returned checks, fees, transactions, budget changes, and/or other related information; codes data and maintains files; gathers and prepares documents for the annual audit.
- Provide timely and accurate payment processing by processing accounts payable checks weekly.
- Enter invoices into the system for payment.
- Match invoices to checks, obtain all signatures for checks, and distribute checks accordingly.
- Maintain files and documentation thorough and accurate, in accordance with company policy and generally accepted accounting practices.
- Reconciles and records a variety of standard worksheets, vouchers, deposits, and/or other related financial information including sales receipts and cashiering sessions.
- Bus pass inventory and reconciliation
- Benefit access monitor and reconciliation.
- Be back-up for the following positions: Accounts Receivable & Inventory for parts and fuel
Training and Experience
Associate's degree in accounting and 3 years' experience in accounting or a related field; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
Licensing Requirements
Must retain a valid Illinois driver's license.

Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
