Job Summary
The Director of IT is responsible for and coordinates local area computer network activities including establishing and maintaining network users, user environment, directories and security. Maintains logs and reports of activity, responds to user problems and questions; trains new and established users on changes to new and upgraded software. Updates the operating system and manages disk storage usage, network printing and technical resources. Also responsible for web site development and administration; graphical information and telecommunication system operation and maintenance.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common network problems.
- Upgrades network hardware and software components as required. Installs, upgrades, and configures network printing, directory structures, rights, security, and software on file servers.
- Provides users with network software training and technical support.
- Responds to the needs and questions of users concerning their access to resources on the network.
- Establishes network users, user environment, directories, and security for networks.
- Develops and administers web sites.
- Operates and maintains graphical information system and telecommunication system
- Backs up system daily (changes tapes).
- Responsible for computer and off-line equipment, scheduling and operations.
- Responsible for training of personnel, budget proposals and recommendations for long- and short-range plans for the acquisition and implementation of new equipment and techniques.
- Keeps current knowledge of new developments in information technology, computer hardware and software.
Training and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent from four-year college or technical school; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Preferred Transit Experience, familiar with transit software.
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, computer network hardware and software instruction manuals.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, user clients, and the public.
Travel:
- Some travel may be required for conferences, training, and off-site collaboration with other agencies.
Working Conditions:
- The majority of work is performed in an office setting, with some outdoors and office work, working closely with others and alone.
- Possible exposure to dirt, dust, moderate noise, electrical/chemical/mechanical hazards, communicable diseases, angry/difficult people, and construction sites.
- Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing, or sitting for prolonged periods of time; kneeling, squatting, bending, twisting, and crouching during assigned activities, pushing and/or pulling, climbing stairs, lifting, and carrying materials.
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization's facilities.
General Working Hours:
- Monday – Friday, with some overtime as needed.
