Pay: Starting pay $27.13. Pay increase after 6 months $28.89

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

This is a maintenance position requiring technical skill and experience in body and frame repair for large vehicles. This work occurs in a variety of weather and environmental conditions. This position requires a knowledge and ability to safely use chemicals, paint, tools and related equipment to keep the District's fleet in top condition. Requires frequent exposure to heat, dust, cold, fumes, cleaning and stripping agents, solvents, lubes, fuels and paint.

PREREQUISITES

  • Must be at least 21 years
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Have a valid Illinois Driver's License for at least five (5) years and a good driving Ability to drive any District owned vehicle. Ability to get and hold a Commercial Driver's License with Combination Vehicle, Air Brake, Wrecker, and Passenger endorsements.
  • Ability to read and comprehend written and oral District policies and procedures, product labels, directions, warnings, safety and work rules.
  • Have full knowledge and working skill to safely apply and use fiber glass and plastic repair materials.
  • Have complete understanding of undercarriage, bulkheads, steering and suspension functions.
  • Lifting required could exceed 100 pounds. Job requires physical ability to sit, bend, squat, stoop climb stairs and lay down. Proper use of a floor creeper
  • Have four plus years of recent, responsible, verifiable experience in body repairing and painting.
  • Education directly related to large truck/bus frame and body repair may be substituted for some experience. Education is verifiable through original transcripts or certificates of training, to include phone numbers and addresses of schools, names of instructors, etc.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Able to use your own full set of hand tools as outlined by the District and be skilled in safe operation of all tools and equipment necessary to complete body work and painting.
  • Perform all welding operations necessary to safely complete body repairs and/or
  • Physically able to safely perform body repairs, chassis component replacement, repairing and adjustments due to accident damage, deterioration and wear.
  • Use safety equipment knowledgeably and skillfully and apply precautions related to this job.
  • Maneuver into and work in cramped, awkward

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Perform all preparation and painting of fleet as
  • Perform necessary welding and brazing required for body repairing and rebuilding. Must be able to physically move and utilize welding equipment.
  • Preparation and painting of wheels on fleet, as required, to maintain high standard of appearance.
  • Keep body shop and paint room free of debris and used parts utilizing cleaning tools and supplies to do so.
  • Properly store all paint products, cleaners and May include lifting, bending squatting and reaching motions.
  • Keep all District owned tools and equipment used in the performance of the job, cleaned, well maintained and stored in a locked cabinet.
